Acai Super Smoothie

So I absolutely love smoothies they are my go to for meals, plus I love the fact they can pack a lot of punch. I usually have one in the morning and do another one at night on busy days when I don’t feel like cooking. I am continuously playing with recipes all the time finding new ones that I love. My current obsession is with acai smoothies, they are my go to in the morning, but this smoothie I always enjoy at night too it does both for me. Now you can play with this recipe and make it tailored to what you need, that’s what is great about it!

Now the reason I started down the smoothie road was I was a patron of Jamba Juice and Nectar Juice almost every day before going to work. I loved their smoothies and Acai bowls, until I figured out what was exactly in them especially all the extra sugar. I had no clue I was drinking in some cases two different types of sorbet.  So to control what I was putting in my body I started making them at home plus I can put my smoothie into a reusable cup versus using the one and done plastic cup that these companies give you.

Recipe:

1 1/2 cup of Acai Juice

1/2 cup almond milk (I like vanilla)

(you can also use home made almond milk which I now do, since learning to make it)

1 cup frozen blueberries (or you can freeze fresh ones)

4 large fresh pieces of Kale (don’t use the stem)

1 1/2 cup of spinach

1/2 coconut milk vanilla bean ice cream (I have a sweet tooth so I add this , its optional also I cant tolerate cow milk )

2 Tsp of Maqui powered

5 large blackberries (I freeze fresh ones)

1/2 cup crushed ice

Now blend!

I do have the ninja blender so I use the frozen drink setting twice to get it to the consistency I like, which is smooth as possible. This amount will make two smoothies, now do be warned that the next day it does liquify more, which for me I do not mind, but if you do not like that try re blending it with ice and more frozen berries.

Now you may see that I put Maqui powder in the smoothie, this is something I just learned about recently thanks to my wonderful girlfriend Mandy. Maqui berry comes from southern Chile,  and it is full of what are called anthocyanins (antioxidants) many people have been using this berry for a variety of reasons from weight lose, diabetes, and even heart disease, it is thought that the antioxidants found in this berry can help protect cells against damage. Its a powerful berry and I have been using it for the past couple of weeks and love it.  Let me know what you think of the recipe or what some of your favorite smoothies are!
